Chinese Salesperson Wins Macau Baccarat Tournament

With baccarat as one of the most in demand casino table games among Asian players, it is no wonder that there are a lot of baccarat tournaments in Asia nowadays.

On October 29th, 2007, a salesperson from the Hubei Province in China became a baccarat champion when he was crowned champion at the Macau baccarat competition. He won a total of HK$15 million. Baccarat enthusiast Yan Jun from Main China and who often visits Macau, a former Portuguese colony, defeated eight other baccarat players to take home the top prize.

The Macau Baccarat Competition has a total of HK$20 million in prizes. Five players came from Mainland China while the rest of the players came from Hong Kong, Macau, the United States and the Netherlands. Edward Ng Wing Biu from Hong Kong managed to finish in 4th place. Yan Jun commented that he just wagered aggressively during the course of the tournament in order to take advantage of the opportunities that are coming along his way.

There is really no way to explain why Asian players prefer the game compared with other games that can be found in live and online casinos. Some casinos like in the U.S. even built baccarat rooms in order to increase their Asian clientele like the Majestic Star casino and others. Participants in the baccarat event had HK$100,000 as their main amount for the final table.

The HK$500,000 came from their own funds and the remainder was provided by the organizers of the event. A lot of people participated in the event according to the officials of the tournament.
